If you didn’t know already, the Spring Equinox was yesterday (you wouldn’t know it if you live by me, hello snow again). This is the time of the year when we embrace and welcome the warmer months and say goodbye to the cold of winter. Which is the perfect visual symbol for changes in life as well. It is why me, and thousands of others, celebrate the equinox! It can mark the beginning of warmer seasons, as well as new seasons in our lives.
I’ve always been a fan of the saying life happens in seasons.
It has been so true for me and my life, especially in the last few months. I’ve made lots of shifts, embraced and welcome change and said goodbye to what was no longer serving me. You know, the whole changing the course of my business and starting a new job! Now, I haven’t always been a “woo woo” kind of person. It started by learning to embrace each one (read “Always Making Time”). And then, I moved onto taking the time to honor the changes in my life during big moments like the Spring Equinox.
So what do I mean by that? Well, when the Spring Equinox comes, I like to look back and think on the goals I set for myself in the New Year. This is the moment when I assess how far I’ve come, what work is left and remind myself of all the good I’ve done. Because it is so important we honor our accomplishments and ourselves!
But this is also when I ask what is holding me back? Even if I’ve accomplished everything I set out to do in January, I still take the time to see what might be stopping me from growing.
I work to let go of the judgments, anger and negativity that I’ve held towards others and myself, or that has been directed towards me.
I acknowledge any mistakes I’ve made or harm I’ve done.
I remind myself it’s okay to be human.
And then, I take a deep breath and let shit go. Anything that I might still be holding onto that is holding me back, I shed it and leave it behind with the cold winter.
Finally, I take in the beauty, the grace and the magic of all the new opportunities in front of me.
One of favorite rituals to mark all that letting go is completing 108 Sun Salutations and I always do it under the guidance of my girl Allie over at The Journey Junkie. It is the perfect combination of spiritual magic and sweat to get me ready to kick some ass in the spring.
But, if you’re not a yogi, then here are two other rituals I like do during seasonal shifts or any time I feel like I need to check in with myself!
I’m a fan of meditation and Allie has got us covered there as well! Even if you’re not a daily, weekly or even monthly meditator, it’s a fantastic tool to use to check in with yourself. It can feel a little odd at first, and if you’re me, it’s always the tiniest bit uncomfortable, but that is why I like to do it.
I know that the discomfort I’m feeling, is trying to tell me something.
The second I started feeling that discomfort a few months ago, I knew it was because I needed to do something different with my career. Those self-check ins (via meditation!) were so crucial to helping figure it out.
Now, if meditation isn’t for you either and that’s okay, there are other ways to check in as well!
I will always love good old pen and paper. Before I ever started my yoga or meditation journeys, I was journaling, writing down goals and creating action plans. These helped me figure out where I wanted to be, and how I could get there. And keeping them allowed me to later check in with myself!
That is why for this week’s blog post, I’m sharing a personal growth workbook created by yours truly. Inside you’ll find worksheets to help you brainstorm goals, get specific and create actionable steps to accomplishing them. You’ll also have a dedicated space to checking in with yourself later and deciding what you need to change and what you need to just let go! This is a system I’ve used myself, as well as many others.
Be sure to tell me what you think! I’m working hard over here to create some free and (hopefully) useful content, in addition to some digital art (coming your way soon!) and your feedback is so crucial to this.
As always, thanks for being here and I can’t wait to continue to share my own growth with you! ❤️
