Last week I couldn’t post my project because it was a gift for family members. The internet is a smaller place than you know and I didn’t want the surprise to be ruined. It was my aunt and uncle’s 25th anniversary, the silver one, and so I decided to do something with that. Most of my fondest memories come from spending time together at Disney World, so here it is!
It was a fun project in the end, although trying to make the castle look perfect nearly broke my heart. What can I say? I’m a perfectionist. This week I didn’t have an exact idea for what I wanted to do. Instead, I spent the afternoon working on three different small watercolor and ink drawings.
The other thing I worked on this weekend is practicing grace over guilt. It is a lesson I’ve learned through my online pilates group. Our instructor has a wonderful message about not beating yourself up when life happens and you don’t stay on top of your plans. Nothing works out 100% perfectly all the time. Sometimes you don’t stick with workout plan like you promised yourself you would and sometimes you can’t create a piece of art every single week. For me, it means that I’ll keep both my resolutions: I work out each day and I will have 52 pieces of art, one for each week of the year. What I won’t do is beat myself up if I’m only able to fit in ten minutes of pilates or sketch something small a few times a week.
My life is craziness right now and I wouldn’t change it for the world, but I will make sure I don’t forget about taking care of myself.
