Female Monk, project #5

Just let me start off by saying it’s been a long and busy week, so I’m sorry the posts haven’t been regular.

I have been staying on top of my goal though. Here we are, five weeks into the new year, and I got five projects to show. It might not seem like a lot, but I’m very proud of myself for keeping it going. I think we all know how hard it is to keep New Year’s resolutions sometimes. Or maybe you have extremely good willpower and have never given up. If so, I’m jealous and impressed.

One more thing, before I post the photos, I do know that this looks A LOT like the reference image. At first I thought, maybe I shouldn’t share this, but this blog is supposed to be about my honest journey as an artist. And this week I found myself exhausted and easily frustrated because of it. So yes, I relied heavy on the reference (it’s pretty much 95% the same), but also used this to test some new paints out. The point is, I will give credit where credit is due. I will also never sell this one, because I don’t feel like it’s 100% mine.

So, here’s the reference, and it’s by Ken Darmadi from Indonesia.

And now my “take” so to speak on it. The fighter is on photo paper and painted with watercolors  . Then attached to a watercolor background. I primarily used this project to see how these new colors worked on both photo paper and regular watercolor paper. If for some reason you share this, please make sure to reference both myself and Ken Darmadi. You can click the photo above to find his website.
