Well, coming into a new year, with new goals!
I hope everyone had a great holiday season and got at least a tiny bit of rest. For me, I don’t think I got to actually take a break until today. It isn’t that I dislike the holidays, but I’m so happy it’s over. I’m enjoying the silence of an empty house. Now that the craziness has ended I can sit back and truly start fresh.
And 2016 is sure going to be a busy year.
But before I begin talking about that, I want to mention how grateful I am for my loved ones. Unfortunately, 2015 ended and 2016 started, with the passing of several wonderful people for myself and my family. To those in my family and friends who lost someone I’m very sorry and my heart is always with you. What I’ve realized though is I’m beyond lucky/fortunate to have my family. It is filled with some of the strongest, most lovely and brilliant people. You inspire me each and every day to accomplish my dreams.
I’ve been rereading Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman series, which in some odd ways, has given me a lot of motivation to achieve my goals in 2016 as well. See panel below:
2016 focuses will be: watercolors, River Roasting, and crocheting.
(Possibly a Masters in English Literature and Creative Writing, more on that in another post.)
My resolution/goal is to create a new watercolor each week. I have to admit that towards the end of last year I slacked off as an artist. For good reasons in some ways. In other ways it was just because I became frustrated. It’s disappointing to work hard and feel like it isn’t paying off. Over my hiatus though I realized that isn’t an excuse to stop. I can’t define myself as an artist by how many paintings I sell. That shouldn’t be what my art is about. That’s what happened to me though. This year, and I truly and wholeheartedly mean it, will be different. I’m going to focus on bettering myself and my skills. If I sell a few pieces along the way, then that’s great. But this time in 2017 I want to see my vision improve and my art develop into what I’ve always imagined.
In order to achieve my weekly watercolor goal I’ll be documenting it here on the blog. I expect everyone to yell at me if I don’t work at getting one done each week.
2016 is also going to be the year of River Roasting! This is the coffee roasting business I’m starting with my fiancé. If you haven’t already checked us out, please do! You can follow us on Twitter and Instagram by searching for @riverroasting.
And finally, 2016 will be the year of crochet as well! I started learning towards the end of 2015 and I think I’m finally getting somewhere. Pictured below is a bear I made for my daughter and a stroller toy for my cousin’s new baby. So get ready to see all my new projects pop up on my website and Etsy store!
And with that, let’s get going!
ps. I’ll still be attempting to do #wednesdayart, but I make no promises since I’ve loaded up my plate already. If you have any artist you think should be showcased (including yourself!) comment below.
